SCOUT® Radar Localization

The SCOUT® system from Merit Medical

Thanks to the SCOUT® system from Merit Medical, which we market, the localization and division of non-palpable nodules during surgical procedures is facilitated. This type of surgery enables faster and less painful recovery for patients with this type of cancer.

The SCOUT® reflector and SCOUT® surgical guidance system assist in the localization and excision of target tissue during surgical procedures. The system uses radar technology to determine the relative depth and direction of a reflective marker located near a cancerous lesion under X-ray and/or ultrasound guidance during a biopsy or previous procedure.

Step 1: Informed pre-surgical planning

Accurately identifies the location and depth of the tumor

  • 60 mm2 detection field
  • Enables an ideal incision from an aesthetic point of view
  • Actual distance measurement enables real-time planning of the anterior margin

Step 2: Real-time margin definition during surgery

Helps optimize surgical goals

  • 360° detection with ± 1 mm2 accuracy
  • Instant response guides the dissection path, eliminating guesswork
  • Predictable sample with real-time margin definition

Step 3: Accurate sample verification

Optimizes breast conservation strategy

  • Confirm planned surgical margins against reflector position
  • Accurate depth measurement when patients are in the supine position
